Englewood
has four beaches from which to choose
for sun bathing, searching for sea shells, swimming, picnicking, boating,
fishing, and more. All of the beaches border the Gulf of Mexico, where
soft sea breezes keep the temperatures at a comfortable level.
Englewood Beach,
in Charlotte County, also
offers a wide expanse of beachfront, plus recreation areas, a boardwalk,
picnic tables, a concession area and paved parking. This beach is also
close to several restaurants, shops and nightclubs.
Just south of Englewood Beach is the
Port Charlotte Beach State Park, a wide expanse of Gulf-front, sandy
beach, where walking along the coastline is a favorite pastime of many. It
is accessible by boat, Jet Ski or walking from Englewood Beach.
At one beach, you can watch shrimp
boats go by or wave to those on sailboats. At another, you can watch
dolphins in the distance. And at yet another, you'll think you're in the
Caribbean.
Welcome to Charlotte County, Florida
-- home to some of the state's least-crowded but breathtaking beaches.
There is one harbor beach and one white sand beach in the county. A third
public beach in Boca Grande is akin to Caribbean beaches and is only a
short drive outside of the county. The only way to reach this island
paradise is to drive through the county.
Manasota
Beach and Blind Pass Beach,
are just d short drive from
Sunset dream villa, Manasota Key, offer beachgoers a variety of
amenities. Manasota Beach boasts 14 acres of Gulf-front beach and sand
dunes, with special areas set aside for sheltered tables, barbecue pits,
boardwalks and bathhouse facilities. Lifeguards are on duty all year
round.
Blind Pass Beach
With more than 60 acres, Blind
Pass Beach
is ideal for swimming and fishing and
now sports a nature trail. Recently, the historic "Hermitage House," one
of the first beach homes to be built on Manasota Key, was revitalized.
Sarasota County also provides a docking area for boats on the Intracoastal
Waterway side of Manasota Key.
Port Charlotte Beach
Port Charlotte Beach Complex is a
public beach at the southeast end of Harbor Boulevard in Port Charlotte.
The beach complex offers a beach club, fishing pier, tennis, volleyball
and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a pool (at annual or one-time
rates), a snack bar, boat ramps and barbecue grills.
.Boca
Grande Beach
Boca Grande is a public beach located
just outside of Charlotte County. The only way to reach this island
paradise is by driving along State Road 771 in Charlotte County.
After paying a $3.20 toll for cars,
visitors will drive along a road surrounded on both sides by light-green
water and white sand. The public beach, which is comparable to Caribbean
beaches, features three lighthouses and large shade trees near shore.
Dolphins often can be seen from the
beach. Snorkelers will find a variety of sea shells near sandbars, and
non-swimmers can stroll on the beach, collecting just as many shells. The
best fishing and shelling is at the southeast public beach.
The beach offers full facilities,
including freshwater showers, picnic tables and grills. There are no
lifeguards on duty. The beach closes at dusk.
Palm Island
is well worth a visit it is reached by a 20-minute water taxi,
on our return from the island
after having a magnificent meal
the sun was setting and the Dolphins were escorting our boat. This
is what dreams are made of.
